Pularchàios

Pula

For over twenty years, in Pula, a very important cultural event has been held, known by the name Pularchàios.

Pularchàios takes place between the months of September and October and its main objective is to bring the public closer to archaeology, often on themes related to the site of Nora. For more than twenty years, this event has also ensured that the inhabitants of Pula are engaged in the excavations that take place every year in the ruins of Nora, one of the most important archaeological sites in the western Mediterranean.

Pularchàios offers a rich programme of events focussed on the ongoing archaeology work, organised in collaboration with the Pula Cultura Diffusa foundation. Leading archaeologists from the four universities conducting research at the site, the Universities of Cagliari, Genoa, Milan and Padua, speak at the event with informative lectures that are as scientific as they are accessible also to non-experts.

Local schools also get a chance to visit the archaeological site with the experts: excavation trips and meetings with the archaeologists, workshops, in-depth studies and thematic lectures take place.

Over the years, Pularchàios has succeeded in bringing the discoveries made in Nora and the surrounding area to an ever-wider public, holding meetings, conferences and debates with scholars from different parts of the world. The events take place in various locations, mainly at the excavations of Nora and in the Giovanni Patroni Archaeological Museum in Pula.
