The beach of Su Portu lies near Chia, within the municipal territory of Domus de Maria, at the southern tip of Sardinia.
About 250 metres long and 35 metres wide, the crescent-shaped beach is set in a small bay closed by the promontory of the tower of Chia to the south-west and by the islet of Su Cardolinu on the opposite side.
Its exceptionally fine white sand has light grey hues, while the shallow water is clear turquoise and emerald and.
Several archaeological sites grace the area: about 300 metres to the south-west, on the summit of a small granite promontory, there is a truncated cone-shaped tower dating from the mid-1500s. Just below the tower are the remains of a temple from the Punic period (5th century BC) brought to light by archaeologists in recent times.
On the islet of 'Su Cardolinu' there is another small temple dating back to the Punic period.
Finally, about 100 metres to the north, past the mouth of a small river, one can walk along the ancient Roman road called 'A Karalibus-Bithia'.
Access mode
Su Portu is easily reached by taking Viale del Porto from the roundabout of the S.P. 71 and then following a dirt road for about 700 metres.
Available services
The pine forest at the back of the bay is equipped with tables, chairs and toilets, while at the end of the beach there is a small kiosk. The area also has parking spaces for cars and motorbikes.
