Located a short distance from the centre of Villa San Pietro, Villa Atzori is undoubtedly one of the most significant buildings in the municipality, together with the Romanesque church of San Pietro, which is only 150 metres away from it.
It is a manor house built in the early 20th century by Cavalier Mario Atzori, following the Art Nouveau style, very much in vogue at the time.
Vaguely hexagonal in shape, the building stands on two floors of the same size, with a vast terrace on top that can be reached through a rectangular turret on the northeastern side.
Large arched windows provide ample light to the frescoed rooms, where the original furnishings are still preserved: carved wood pieces, painted canvases, fine ceramics and a piano. Built with typical ladiri (adobe bricks), the outbuildings rest on the outer walls of the estate, their pitched roofs covered with Sardinian tiles.
In front of the main entrance, about 20 metres away, is a beautiful circular fountain with spouts and a cupid on top. The house also has a connection with the cult of Sant’Efis. Since 1943, when the house protected the statue of the saint on its journey to Nora, Villa Atzori is a traditional stop on the return procession towards Cagliari and the Saint is draped with a precious cloak donated by the Atzori family.
