In the north-western sector of the municipal territory of Pula, in the heart of the Is Cannoneris forest, lies the locality known as Riu Alinu.
We are located within the Gutturu Mannu Regional Park, a true green lung of the Mediterranean. Here there is a primary forest of holm oaks extending over thousands of hectares. There are several paths to enter this natural paradise and one of them leads to the natural waterfalls of Riu Alinu. Alinu in the Sardinian language means Alder tree, since the area is rich in these typical Mediterranean plants.
To reach these marvellous waterfalls, one must enter a narrow gorge of granite origin carved by the flowing waters. Upon reaching this place, one witnesses a spectacle of nature where the waters of the 'Riu Alinu' river are channelled through a narrow rock channel to flow, with a steep drop of about ten metres, into a natural pool about one and a half metres deep.
This is surrounded by high rock walls with a smooth surface as it has been worked by the flowing water. From this first pool, another stream forms, which continues its course to a second fall, this time shorter but still extremely fascinating. Here too, the waters of the waterfall culminate in a small basin where the water appears crystal clear and is about one metre deep.
In summer, the two waterfalls, the upper and the lower, reduce their water flow considerably but do not disappear completely.
