About 30 km from Cagliari, in the municipality of Sarroch and near the hamlet of Perd'e Sali, is the beach of Porto Columbu.
More than 1 km long and 15 metres wide, this beach is made of gravel, crushed stone and medium-grained sand of a light grey and white colour.
The seabed is shallow and made up of sand, rocks and pebbles, with the water fading from green to blue. Well exposed to the mistral wind, the beach is ideal for water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. Behind it is a village of holiday homes, inhabited mostly during the summer season, but also Bed & Breakfast, bars, restaurants, a church and an urban park.
A few hundred metres away, there are the ruins of several nuraghi and a 'tomba dei giganti' (a funerary monument from the Nuragic period). The small Marina di Perd'e Sali is just north of Porto Coumbu. Here, in addition to mooring small and medium-sized boats, one can hire motorboats and canoe-kayaks.
The islet of San Macario, about 250 metres long by 150 metres wide, is visible from the beach. It is home to a tower of the same name from the Spanish era (16th century AC) in an excellent state of preservation, the ruins of an ancient monastery from the Byzantine era (8th century AC), traces of a church from the same period and an abandoned tuna fishery from the 17th century AC.
