Note di Settembre

Domus de Maria

For the last decade, early September has brought the annual appointment with Note di Settembre (September Notes), an archaeological event celebrating the amazing heritage of Domus de Maria.

Scholars have been engaged in the search for the mythical Punic and Roman city of Bithia, near present-day Chia, since the early 20th century.

Research to date has uncovered a settlement of Punic and Roman times located near the coastal tower of Chia that consists of a tophet, an acropolis, a necropolis and the temple of the Egyptian goddess Bes. The Municipal Administration of Domus de Maria, in collaboration with a scientific committee of officials from the Soprintendenza, university professors and archaeologists involved in excavations and research in the area, set up this two-day event to showcase the town's archaeological museum and the excavations carried out in the acropolis of Bithia.

There will be open-air conferences in the evenings, in the square in front of the archaeological museum, focusing on old and new discoveries made in the area, as well as other archaeological-themed talks by scholars and researchers. After the debates, the evenings continue with a tasting of typical local products and musical performances.
