Beach of Su Giudeu

Domus de Maria

The beach of Su Giudeu is rated as one of the most beautiful ones around Chia, a hamlet of Domus de Maria in southern Sardinia.

Tall sand dunes that can reach up to twenty metres in height, with juniper trees releasing their intense Mediterranean scent in the air, frame the long, wide beach of white-to-golden sand.

Inland, behind the beach and the dunes, an almost lunar landscape, with the brackish water lagoon of Spartivento, home to numerous species of pink flamingos, herons, coots and seagulls.

The water shimmers with beautiful colours ranging from azure to emerald, and its sandy, shallow seabed makes it suitable for children but also snorkelling and diving enthusiasts.

The beach is crescent-shaped and owes its name to a dark rock islet called 'Su Giudeu', covered with low Mediterranean scrub and easily accessible on foot, by swimming or by small boats. Climbing to the top of the islet provides a spectacular view of the entire coastline. All around the islet’s rocks lives 'su prupu giudeu', a variant of octopus with only a single row of suckers in each leg, which gives the area its name.

The area offers parking, restaurant, bar, deckchair and umbrella rental, and a diving centre.
