Although the beach of Piscinnì is part of the municipality of Domus de Maria, it is located between Tuerredda and Capo Malfatano, which instead lie within the municipal boundaries of Teulada, in the southwestern tip of Sardinia.
A very fine, soft white sandy beach, it lies by one of Italy's most breath-taking scenic roads and is a favourite spot for water sports enthusiasts (surfers and kite surfers) and divers.
The water takes on colours ranging from emerald green to turquoise, while the backdrop is coloured and perfumed by the dense Mediterranean scrub dominated by centuries-old junipers and mastic trees.
Here, the coastline is also features scenic walking paths, such as the one leading to the 16th century coastal tower built from local limestone and granite to guard the sea against pirate raids from the North African coasts.
Behind the shoreline, the Piscinnì lagoon is a large body of water in the winter months and a smaller pool in summer, with a variety of fauna and flora that made it become a Site of Community Importance. In addition to the natural beauty, this area also boasts unique archaeological features, as it is home to a large sandstone quarry dating back to the Roman era, with its perfectly cut and squared rock shelves enhancing the landscape.
There are no lifeguard or beach services, making this an ideal destination for those who favour wild and uncrowded places in the summer.
