The locality known as 'Sa Punta' is located in the south-western coastal periphery of the municipality of Sarroch, at the southern end of the coast of Sardinia.
The area faces the sea and extends over several hectares with a length of approximately 1.5 km and an average width of 500 metres. The extreme points of reference are the 'Su Murvoni' beach to the north and the 'Portu Mannu' cliffs to the south.
In the central part of the beach, close to the water, are the ruins of the 'Torre Zavorra', a military structure built around 1578 and operational until 1832 with a garrison of the Dragoni di Sardegna Corps. About 500 metres south of the ruins of Torre Zavorra, just before the southern end of Punta Zavorra, one can find what remains of a military battery dating back to the Second World War. The structure was built in 1939 and is also known as 'Sa Domu de Is Marineris' or 'The Sailors' House'.
The building measures approximately 10 metres wide by 11 metres long, with a maximum height of 3.5 metres. At the base one can recognise a concrete platform positioned directly on the sandy, pebble-rich surface. The battery was built on this base, using medium-sized square blocks of local stone (andesite and granite), baked clay bricks and gravel, lime and cement made from sea sand as materials. The flat roof was made from a single slab of reinforced concrete. Originally, the interior and exterior walls were presumably entirely plaster covered.
