Beach of Portu Tramatzu

Teulada

The beach of Portu Tramatzu is located in the southwestern tip of Sardinia.

The 500 metres beach looks like a small perfectly shaped bay, well closed to the northeast and south-west by granite cliffs crested with junipers and maritime pines. The sand is white and very fine, even in the shallow seabed, making this a child-friendly location.

The water is crystal clear with shades ranging from emerald to turquoise for several metres off the shoreline. Looking southeast towards the sea, the unmistakable shape of Isola Rossa stands out about 800 metres from the beach. This is a reddish-coloured granite formation with numerous species of Mediterranean scrub such as pine, juniper, myrtle and cistus.

The islet still holds the perimeter walls of a structure dating back to the early 20th century for tuna fishing and processing. The extremely rare Corsican seagull nests here. A strip of land separates Portu Tramatzu to the southeast from the beach Degli Americani (of the Americans), while to the north-west a short path leads to the harbour of Marina di Teulada, where small and medium-sized boats can be moored.
