At the southern tip of the large Golfo di Palmas, in the Sulcis area (southwestern Sardinia), lies the beach known as Le Dune.
This is part of a larger complex known as Porto Pino, almost 4 km long, also known as Is Arenas Biancas, which means 'The White Sands' in the Sardinian language. Indeed, dunes up to 30 metres high, shaped by the mistral and formed by the finest white sand provide a spectacular backdrop to this long beach.
Here, at the top of the dunes and all along the shoreline, is the largest concentration of maritime pine in the Mediterranean basin, as well juniper trees (both Phoenicia and Macrocarpa varieties), which found their ideal habitat here.
The long and wide beach is also made up of fine white sand, with a very shallow shoreline that extends for many metres. The water is always crystal clear and turquoise blue in colour, while its temperature tends to be very mild and pleasant.
This truly is an oasis of striking beauty: the promontory of Capo Teulada enhances the view to the east, while the three islets Della Vacca, Del Toro and Del Vitello are visible to the southwest. Behind the beach are the natural fishponds of Corvo, Porto Pino, Foxi and De Is Brebeis.
